At BeLeste Dance we aim to provide a fun and safe environment for people of all ages and experience to enjoy partner dancing.
Founded in 2015 BeLeste Dance is the combined dream of Lester Skorka and Belinda Bischa. Originating from humble beginnings, the two’s passion for teaching the love of dance has been the fuel in the fire that makes BeLeste dance what it is today.
We offer a variety of dance options, ranging from social dances for people who just want to dance, through to private lessons for people who want to hone their skills.
“We love seeing people grow and enjoy the love of dance.”
What really sets us apart from the rest is the personal, welcoming, encouraging environment that we provide. We love to see our dancers return, hungry for more, and with our large air conditioned floor, engaging instructors, and not to mention our modern, tasteful music choices, BeLeste Dance is your one stop shop dance hub south of Brisbane.
BeLeste Dance grew out of a chance request to teach dance to a group of indigenous young adults. The personal growth and maturity that we noticed inspired us to form BeLeste Dance, and show people the benefits of dance.
BeLeste Dance has been growing and evolving over the last four years, and now runs public social dance classes, youth programs, private lessons, performs at shows and other events, teaches bridal couples for their bridal dance and runs selected school events.
Lester Skorka and Belinda Bischa have both been involved in DanceSport (competitive sports version of Ballroom Dancing) for over 35 years, and have known each other since they were teenagers. They danced at the same studio together with different partners before moving to different studios.
Lester was transferred to Melbourne in 1989 with work and competed with his wife at both a State and National level. In 1992 he retired due to the arrival of his first child. In 2008, after returning to Brisbane a few years earlier he met up with Belinda and they decided to dance together for exercise and fitness. They then both got the competitive bug again, and have now won four graded Australian titles together.
Belinda continued her dancing and competed at a high level throughout Queensland and Nationally. Some of the highlights of Belinda’s career include touring with “Let’s Dance” around Queensland with the Queensland Arts Council and performing in the 2000 Olympics Closing Ceremony. In 1999 she retired from competitive dancing, but was coaxed back to dance with Lester in 2008.
“We have danced together competitively for twelve years, and have been State and Australian Champions in our grades numerous times. We love dancing together and enjoy both the artistic and the sporting nature of Dancesport, as well as the competitive side.”
Lester and Belinda have continued to compete and improve their rankings in both local and National championships, culminating in them becoming Finalists in their Open events at the last few Australian Dancesport Championships. They also continued to build their Dance Studio and hone their performance and teaching quality.
